2025 Fishing Reports

July 19,25

Were starting to see chironomid hatches more consistently now after a month of very spotty and light hatches of #16’s and smaller ones. The past month the Cinnamon Caddis have been coming off in good numbers, Mayflies in good numbers and also Damsels, so in the weeds, over the weeds and weed bed edges most were fishing. Being forced to fish other than with chironomids has been a learning curve that one must challenge them selves to if you want to get into fish.

Worm under a float has picked up fish along with trollers using gang trolls, Bingo bugs, Kwikfish and Hot Shots.

Surface water temps move up and down from 64-67, water clarity is very good, very unusual and not seen before seeing bottom down to 9 feet, some mention even deeper, there is no algae present and none seen so far this year, another first.

Weather has been mixed from a hot calm day to cloudy with showers and even a few days of rain. No prolonged day of either which is probably contributing to the water clarity.

Fish are behaving differently with the clarity, being more cautious of noise, boats and their anchor lines.

#12 chironomids and a bit smaller have been coming off, a few late evenings ago a true(1 inch adult) Bomber size chironomid took flight, great to see!!

Lake water levels have dropped a few inches, the wetter weather so far this summer is keeping the farmers  from drawing down lake levels for watering their hay/grass fields, we do like the drawdown as it draws out the deeper cooler water replacing it with the warmer water which triggers large chironomids to pupate and emerge as big chironomids and hopefully some Bomber size bugs from now until close to the end of August.
