Subject: Acceptable Use Policy for the Tunkwa Lake Resort Sani-Dump
Tunkwa Lake Resort wishes to take a major Green step forward, by controlling the chemicals added to our waste treatment systems. This initiative will not only be good for the environment, it will also help to control odours that can occur from processing waste waters through our waste water treatment systems.
Starting April 1, 2012, Tunkwa Lake Resort has implemented a new policy with regards to the use of the Sani Dump located at the resort. Dumping of any holding tank that contains chemical treatments will be prohibited. Chemical treatments are any product, or home made mixture, that contains any chemicals, including, but not limited to the following;
|Active ingredient||Human Environmental Danger|
|Dowicil (chemical name: 1-(3-chlorallyl)-3,4,7-triaza-1 azoniaadamantane chloride)||bacterial pesticide (EPA states “Do not discharge effluent containing this product to sewer systems without previously; notifying the local sewage treatment plant authority.”)|
(also known as Formalin; degradate of bronopol)
|kills or retards bacterial growth, recognized by EPA as probable carcinogen (1); moderately toxic to humans (2)|
(also known as embalming fluid)
|Retards bacterial growth and covers sewage odor, eye and inhalation irritant|
|very toxic to humans (3) (see formaldehyde)|
(common ingredient in mothballs, urinal cakes, and toilet bowl fresheners)
|known carcinogen (1) and drinking water contaminant; moderately toxic to humans (2)|
(1) a carcinogen causes cancer, (2) lethal dose for 150 lb person is between 1 ounce to 1 pint,
(3) lethal dose for 150 lb person is between 1 teaspoon to 1 ounce
An acceptable alternate treatment product will be available to you in the Resort store. The product BactiZyme Bio-RV is made using non-pathogenic, naturally occurring bacteria. Depending on your tank usage, and outside temperatures, each sachet will treat your tank for up to a week. These sachets will be sold as an individual pack or a 36 pack can be purchased at the store. If you wish to use other, bacteria or enzyme based products, please review with us prior to discharge into the Sani-Dump.
If you would like to continue to use traditional chemical based treatments, you will need to utilize an alternate Sani-Dump, such as the one located in Logan Lake.
Thank you for your cooperation and assistance in making the resort a little bit greener.
